We are looking for cooks who are ready to share their ideas, skills, and creativity in our kitchen. We serve aprox 60 senior residents, casual dining style on our dining room. You will be part of our team of cooks who whip up their favorite meals. Even if you do not have experience as a cook in an establishment, we are open to hearing about recipes and dishes you love to cook up at home!

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Cook is responsible for preparing quality meals for residents. They are involved in direct food preparation and ensure that all regulations and standards are being met. The Cook assists in serving food to the residents; helps with clean-up of kitchen and serving areas; takes inventory to ensure that the needed supplies are available; and assists in the supervision of the kitchen staff as needed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent (desirable, not required)
  • Ability to perform simple calculations
  • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions
  • Knowledge of food service equipment operating procedures
  • Ability to operate food service equipment safely and properly
  • One year of experience in quantity food preparation
  • Prepare meals in accordance with written menu and special diet requirements
  • Genuine caring for and understanding of elderly and disabled persons
  • Comply with Residents’ Rights and employee Personnel Policies
  • Perform work tasks within the physical demand requirements as outlined below
  • Perform Essential Duties as outlined below

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Governor’s Bend expects their associates to do whatever is necessary to promote an atmosphere of teamwork with other associates and hospitality and comfort for its residents. Therefore, the following lists are not all inclusive. Essential Duties:

  • Prepare and cook resident meals in quantities according to menu and number of persons served
  • Prepare meals according to proper methods and cooking temperatures for best utilization and yield of meats and other foods
  • Clean work area and equipment in accordance with sanitation requirements
  • Prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus
  • Use good judgment in food preparation, seasoning food, estimating requirements, and utilizing leftovers
  • Taste, smell, and observe all foods prepared to ensure conformity with recipes, and good taste and appetizing appearance
  • Consistently prepare meals on time to ensure that serving schedules are being met
  • Serve food according to dietary guidelines, checking each tray for completeness and accuracy
  • Prepare food in accordance with sanitary regulations
  • Make only authorized substitutions
  • Monitor portion control guidelines for individual residents to prevent food waste Record required temperatures
  • Store food items properly away according to state regulations
  • Prepare and store food samples from each meal according to state regulations Dispose of food and waste properly
  • Place orders for food purchases and/or receive and check deliveries as directed by the Dietary Manager
  • Prepare foods for facility personnel, families, visitors, and for special occasions and events as directed by the Dietary Manager
  • Attend monthly departmental and full staff in-service programs to meet facility educational requirements
  • Other duties as directed by the Dietary Manager
  • Wear Appropriate PPE (cut proof gloves) while slicing food or handling knives.
  • Do not clean grease trap while serving food. Personal Demands:

  • Develop a thorough knowledge of facility’s operations and physical layout
  • Obtain annual skin test as required by state
